About See It From
Our feeds learn what we like and show us more of it. Over time, everyone ends up surrounded by people who already agree with them, and the people across the table start to look unreasonable.
Most of the time they are not. They are standing somewhere else. A grandmother who lived through expensive long-distance calls hears a ringing phone differently from a 24-year-old whose phone has been on silent since high school. Neither of them is wrong.
Each story on this site takes one everyday thing that families and coworkers disagree about and lets three or four people explain it in their own words, side by side. Then it points out what each of them gets right, and suggests one small thing to try.
How we write
- No winners. We do not decide who is right. Where there is data, we report it with the date and source.
- Composite people. The voices are composites based on surveys and common experiences, not real individuals, and every story says so.
- Everyday topics. We stay away from party politics. The goal is understanding, not debate.
We are based in Toronto, so many stories include Canadian data and the experience of immigrant families.
